Patience is a Gift

Nora Plesent

Dear Gatherers,

My father has always been my moral compass. His words aligned with his actions making them even more impactful. He is a man of true integrity.   When I would share a challenge I was experiencing, personally or professionally, his response was usually just a few words, "Patience and Fortitude".  I had a hard time with patience. I didn't fully understand it's importance and in fact, thought there was something passive about it. When I was striving to succeed in my career, I thought that being impatient was a healthy tool to keep going.  Later when I was a single working mom of four, I didn't understand how I could ever find the time to become patient. It has taken me over 50 years to really heed the wisdom my dad's words. In Judith Orloff's book Emotional Freedom, she talks about how we can deal with all sorts of frustrations by practicing patience. She describes the energy of frustration as tense, prickly, trapped in your head, and frayed at the edges. Conversely, the energy of patience feels generous, appreciative, respectful, like a big exhale. It has been my journey to becoming an immersive meditation leader that has finally connected me to the gift of patience, both as a way to combat frustration but also as a way to stop getting in my own way. My dad has never meditated nor read a book about emotional freedom but instinctively knew the power of patience and fortitude. I am grateful that he has been patient with me as I have learned his lessons in my own way and my own time.  I want to be more generous, appreciative, respectful and less tense, prickly and frayed at the edges.

I also finally understand that there's no rush.

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Lao Tse

Imagine there's enough time to find your way, your purpose, your person, your calm. Because when we cultivate patience and experience its calming, soft, embracing presence, there really is time to do what we need and want to do to be fully self-expressed. When we eliminate the barriers to our most authentic nature we can experience the flow of our lives. We can experience that big exhale we all yearn for. The Gathering is about what really matters- you. In each session, there is meditation, reflection, writing and sharing. And most importantly, the participants report that their insights have led them to take purposeful and positive actions in their lives. JOIN US ON SUNDAY AT 4 PT/ 7 ET!!
